99 Overall vs PFF
PFF grades what happened. We grade why it happened — and show you the evidence.
Why The Numbers Differ
Film Grade vs Box Score
99 Overall splits every grade into a Film Grade (what the player did mechanically and mentally — 70% weight) and a Box Score (what actually happened — 30% weight).
A QB who throws a perfect ball that gets dropped: Process 94 / Result 0 / Grade 66. PFF penalizes the incompletion. We credit the execution.
Behavioral Anchors
Every 99 Overall score has a one-sentence description of what that number means on film. A 78 on Read Progression means something specific and different from a 78 on Ball Placement.
PFF's criteria and weights are proprietary. You can't ask “why 72?” and get a film-grounded answer. With 99 Overall, you always can.
Snap Weighting
99 Overall weights clutch plays 1.5x more than neutral plays. A 3rd & 7 with 1:30 left and the game on the line counts more than a 1st & 10 in a blowout.
PFF treats all snaps equally. We believe context matters — and fans agree.
