Launch Point

The Full Picture
Q1, 3rd & 9 from the JAX 38. Mahomes reads the pressure coming, gets the ball out early to Thornton down the left sideline. The throw is actually UNDERTHROWN — Thornton has to come back for it — but the defender overruns the route, which is why the catch happens. CPOE of 74.3 looks elite on paper, but the film shows a bail-out: good pre-snap read, imperfect execution, lucky result. The defender overrunning is the real story. Film Grade should be lower than Box Score here — the process was good (right read, right timing) but the throw quality was below elite. Jacksonville challenged the completion — ruling stood.
What To Look For
When CPOE exceeds 70, the QB is doing something only the best in the world can do. Watch the safety — Mahomes holds him with his eyes before firing.
