Where We Disagree — And Why
These players diverge by 10+ points between systems. Every divergence has an explanation rooted in film.
Trevor LawrencePFF grades Lawrence's 2025 season conservatively due to sack volume. 99 Overall's Process score shows Lawrence was let down by protection on the majority of his sacks — his decision-making on passing plays graded 84.7 when adjusted for pressure.
Drake MayePFF's 2025 grade reflects strong output numbers on a historically bad roster. 99 Overall grades slightly lower on process, flagging some early-read limitations, but directionally agrees — Maye is legitimately elite.
Brock PurdyPFF passing grade of 82.6 benefits from scheme. 99 Overall grades Purdy lower on pre-snap recognition in isolation — his decision tree leans heavily on Shanahan's run-action structure rather than independent coverage processing.
Dak PrescottStat-line hero, process gaps on film. Dallas went 4-13 on a $60M AAV deal. 99 Overall flags late reads, missed progressions, and forced throws into coverage that PFF's result-based grading absorbs.
Kirk CousinsCousins' efficiency stats look passable, but 99 Overall flags his pre-snap recognition as below average — he relies on the playcall, not the read. At $40M+ AAV, the process gap is a roster construction disaster.
Double-team resistance is invisible in box scores but dominant on film. 99 Overall measures gap displacement at the snap — Carter grades as the most disruptive interior DL in the league, a full 8 points above PFF's assessment.
Creed HumphreyPFF's pass blocking grade of 84.1 and run blocking grade of 88.5 averaged out slightly differently by our weighting. 99 Overall grades his zone anchor technique higher — he wins the first two steps before the play develops.
Deshaun WatsonBoth systems agree Watson is one of the worst starters in the NFL, but 99 Overall grades his pre-snap processing and pocket mobility even lower than PFF due to degraded movement patterns post-injury.
